One of a series of AIDS benefit albums put together by the Red Hot Organisation. Like the first compilation in the series (Red Hot & Blue), 'Rio' features rock, rap and jazz artists taking on the songbook of a classic songwriter, this time father of the bossa nova Antonio Carlos Jobim.

The groop collaborated with famous jazz flautist Herbie Mann for their contribution to the record, "One Note Samba / Surfboard". The version released here is 7'18" long, compared with the over 9 minute version on 'Aluminum Tunes'. The longer version can also be found on the Antilles/Verve sampler "Music You Haven't Heard Yet Vol.2" (5-track promo CD, cat no: SACD 1248, Polygram Records 1996)
